Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

Carroll Post #31, The American Legion, extends an invitation to the members of your organization to participate in the 149th annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies to be held in Westminster, Monday, May 29, 2017.

The ceremonies will begin with a parade that will form at 9:00 am on Monroe Street, near West Middle School and St. John’s Catholic Church. Parade will step off at 10:00 am. In keeping with tradition, the participating organizations may present a wreath(s) at the Mound in the Cemetery. The length of the program is less than one hour. We also request that all marching bands play from Longwell Ave until all their instrumentalists have passed the announcer and cameras, so that the TV audience will have the benefit of hearing you play. Thank you for your cooperation.

The committee requests that you return the information sheet before May 15th indicating the degree of your participation. This will assist in the development of the marching order and other program arrangements. If your organization must have transportation, kindly arrange for necessary vehicles. Please remember that this is a Memorial parade. We ask you to refrain from use of banners and/or magnetic signs for the sole purpose of advertising any business seeking to attain profit.

In the event of inclement weather, the observance will be held in the National Guard Armory, 30 Hahn Road, (near Wal-Mart store), at 11:00 am. Radio station WTTR (AM-1470) will broadcast announcements regarding this change of venue starting at 8:30 am.

If the person to whom this invitation is mailed is no longer assigned to this activity, please forward this material to the person currently responsible. If your organization is no longer able to participate please return the information sheet and ask us to remove you from our mailing list.

Our parade permit prohibits the handing out or tossing of any objects (such as candy, toys, etc.) from vehicles for safety reasons. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Additionally, please be aware, as this is a parade in remembrance to military members lost, and NOT a celebration of any sort, we respectfully ask that if politicians participate, that they respect the request that there be NO POLITICKING during the parade. This includes any advertisement, or stumpers alluding to a political race, marchers, or signage. Participants are included so that they may honor those lost, not to be used as a platform for politics.

Please email any information you would like the TV announcer to use as your Organization passes to:

Paul Emmert: post31cdr@gmail.com

We wish to Thank You for participating in the past, and hope that in some way that support will continue.

For God and Country,

Paul J. Emmert, Sr.

General Chairman / Past Commander
