Westminster Recreation and Parks Director
Named Employee of the Year by Maryland Municipal League
Abby Gruber, Director of Recreation and Parks for the City of Westminster, received the 2018 Roland B. Sweitzer award from the Maryland Municipal League on Monday, June 11, 2018. The League presented the award to Gruber at its annual summer conference in Ocean City, Maryland.
Commonly referred to as the Employee of the Year award, the Roland B. Sweitzer award recognizes a high standard of professionalism in service to a local government. In her submission nominating Gruber for the award, Westminster City Administrator stated, “Abby Gruber has a proven track record of leadership, innovation, fiscal stewardship, and a love of public service. As Director of Recreation and Parks for the City of Westminster, Ms. Gruber has made a positive impact on the quality of life in the City of Westminster, and we are a better community because of her efforts and contributions.”
The Maryland Municipal League, located in the State capital of Annapolis, was founded in 1936 and represents 157 municipal governments and two special taxing districts throughout the State of Maryland. A voluntary, nonprofit, nonpartisan association controlled and maintained by city and town governments, the League works to strengthen and support municipal government through advocacy and the development of effective leadership.
In addition to Gruber, the City of Westminster has two other Roland B. Sweitzer award winners on its staff – Public Works Director Jeff Glass and Director of Finance and Administrative Services Tammy Palmer.
