Westminster Earns Financial Reporting Award


The City of Westminster has been awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for fiscal year 2017. The Certificate of Excellence is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

This is the second consecutive year that Westminster has received this honor for its CAFR.

The CAFR is prepared by Westminster’s Finance Department in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. The City’s financial statements are audited each year by a firm of certified public accountants.

The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving nearly 19,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and finance practitioners. The association is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with additional offices in Washington, D.C.

Mayor Joe Dominick stated, “I congratulate Director of Finance Tammy Palmer and Accountant Ken Lubega on receiving this recognition from the GFOA for their work on the FY 2017 CAFR.  The award is a reflection of how they and the rest of the Finance Department team responsibly manage the City’s finances day in and day out.”   

City Administrator Barbara B. Matthews added, “We are very proud of the work performed by our Finance Department staff for ensuring that the City’s finances are transparent to Westminster residents.”
