Music Venues

There are quite a few concert venues where public musical performances occur in and around the City of Westminster.
  • McDaniel College - McDaniel College has several on-campus locations that serve as music venues. Levine Hall is home to the Music Department and their recital hall. The settings of Baker Chapel and Baker Memorial Chapel are both beautiful visually and alive acoustically. The larger chapel has an Aeolian Skinner organ. McDaniel Lounge is an intimate salon ideal for chamber music and vocal recitals. Centrally located in the student center, the Decker College Center Forum is a medium-sized auditorium. The Forum is home to live jazz performances by the College's Jazz Ensemble and unique jamming by its 8-piece workshop group, the best from each section of the ensemble as well as performances sponsored by Chamber Music on the Hill. Finally, WMC Alumni Hall is a 500-seat theatre used for the college band and other concerts.
  • Carroll Community College - Whether your musical preferences include jazz, percussion, opera, choral music, or a full orchestra, Carroll Community College offers many opportunities for you to enjoy any or all of these types of performances. Most of the performances are held in the 425-seat theater of the Robert Annis and Phyllis Barrett Scott Center for the Fine and Performing Arts that opened in 2002. Other performances are held outside at the Rotary Amphitheater that was completed in 1998 and started the college on its way to fulfilling its goal of becoming a cultural center for the performing arts.
  • Downtown Area - There are two prominent and one minor outdoor music venues in the downtown area. Locust Lane Park, 43 East Main Street, across Main Street from the public library and next to Pomeroy Jewelers, is home to the "Lunch on the Lane" concert series every Friday at noon in June, "Songs at Six" concert series every Thursday at 6 p.m. in July and the "Midnight Madness" musical performances in September, along other periodic musical events. Westminster City Park, behind 11 Longwell Avenue, hosts "A Month of Sundays" concert series every Sunday at 6:45 p.m. in July as well as the "FallFest" musical performances in September. Belle Grove Square, a quiet town park at the corner of Green and Bond Streets, comes alive in late August with the Westminster Municipal Band's Annual Outdoor Concert.
  • Westminster High School - The auditoriums of Westminster High School, 1225 Washington Road, and Winters Mill High School, 560 Gorsuch Road, are both used as concert venues by local performing groups or sponsoring organizations, such as Carroll County Community Concert Association, Inc., in addition to the performing groups of the schools. Finally, the 263-seat theatre in the Carroll Arts Center at 91 West Main Street is a very popular concert venue. It serves as the home to the Common Ground on the Hill Roots Concert Series that runs monthly from October through April and hosts numerous concerts sponsored by both the Carroll County Arts Council and independent promoters.
