A Bird City is a community that has been recognized for its efforts to:
- Increase bird habitat
- Reduce threats to birds
- Educate and engage people with birds
- Promote sustainability
Bird City Westminster’s goal is to help people enjoy and protect birds in our community, making our city healthier for birds and people! The City of Westminster worked with Bird City Maryland to choose 10 action steps to protect birds.
Help choose Westminster’s signature bird
We need a "signature" bird to represent Westminster! The Bird City Committee and Carroll County Bird Club chose five finalist birds. They are all birds that live at Wakefield Valley, the city's biggest park and a great place to find birds!
The five finalists are:
- Red-winged Blackbird
- American Goldfinch
- Red-shouldered Hawk
- Eastern Bluebird
- Northern Flicker
