12. Westminster Welcome Event Details

    Approx. 450-500 incoming first year students will walk from McDaniel College to the Westminster Library. This is the same location as in previous years. You are encouraged to be standing on the sidewalk to positively welcome the students as they make their way down from the Hill.

    After brief remarks, students will be dismissed from the library lawn and encouraged to visit local businesses for a couple of hours before heading on their way back to campus. There will also be a Community Connections Fair at Locust Lane, across from the Library, near 47 E. Main Street.

    All students will have a $10 voucher from the City to spend with an expiration of September 28, 2025. McDaniel College is also collecting items for the bags if you have anything additional in quantities of 500 to add. 

    We hope you will plan to be open, accept the vouchers (no cost to you), and encourage these new students about all of the wonderful things that make up Downtown Westminster!

16. Are you planning to accept the City donated $10 paper vouchers?

    Once redeemed at your store, voucher(s) will need to be returned to the City of Westminster Finance Department at 45 West Main Street, Westminster, MD 21157. The building is open Mon-Fri 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. but there is also a drop box in the rear.

19. McDaniel College is working on getting pennants for businesses to bring some school spirit Downtown! This is the time to encourage students to use their vouchers, be inviting, and engage.

    If you need help figuring out how to do this, please reach out. Your peers are able to help!

21. Would you like to share details with us on things you plan to do for this event?

    Think green and gold decorations, special offerings, special menus that better cater to the $10 voucher or other ways to easily spend $10, activities paired along with this event.

23. Do you have anything to add to the new student bags?

    The City is offering $10 voucher, they also get a welcome booklet and some other items from McDaniel College. Would you like to add something to the bags? They need them in 500 quantity and to be dropped off by July 11, 2025.
